Commentary on the Iran VS Mexico game of the world cup 2006 in Germany

It's been like a hard slap in the face! I was watching Iran's first Worldcup 2006 game, hopeing for a miracle. I'll be in Frankfurt for Iran's second game, the one against Portugal. A favorable result for Iran against Mexico would have pumped me up towards the second game against Portugal, but what I saw against Mexico has left me without a smile on my face. I almost dont want to get on that plane! Imagine these guys playing against Figo, Deko, Ronaldo, Pauleta, who was the maximum scorer in the soccer league of France! I wonder if I should close my eyes during the game with Portugal! I also wonder if it was a wise idea to spend my savings to go to Germany to be humiliated. I dont know why I'm dissapointed? What else should I have expected. The friendly against Croatia, showed what we were to expect. Iran's 2 scores against Craoatia were both generated from errors made by Croatia's defence, and not from an organized play by the Iranian Team. Then when they were winning 2-1, they couldnt hold the score. The ayatollahs rather spend money on Hamas than the team-e Melli. Iran only played 2 real frendly games, and only Croatia was a serious rival. But a team like Iran who only usually plays third world teams like Bahrain and Thailand, and cant even always clearly win those, needed way more friendly preparation games. These friendly should have been against strong teams like: Turkey, Chile, Uruguay. Iran has participated in 3 world cups. I remember Mexico in Argentina's world cup in 1978, the same year Iran played. Mexico lost by 6 goals to Germany. Well, at least they have progressed. I don't consider Iran's win against USA in 1998 any progress, given how it was celebrated. It was embarassing. It was a first round game and they celebrated as if they won the world cup. With Iran it seams like, there hasn't been progress. It looks like their maximum achievment is to beat a tiny country like Bahrain, and that with difficulties, to qualify for the world cup. Sad! The ayatollahs need to spend more money on Iranian football, there should also be an encouragement program to get iranian players to play in European teams. It would be nice to see some progress, even if its little progress. Iranian players should stop acting and feeling like superstars. I know having 70 million people counting on you, elevates the ego, but they should remind themselves that they are only a team from the Middle East that in the eyes of the international community are there at the worldcup just to be humiliated by many goals! Maybe this concept will make them run after the ball with some more interest! I also hope Ali Da"Hezbolahi" is removed from the team!
